This project investigates the extent to which LLM-based systems can improve students’ learning experiences in low-resource educational settings. In particular, it asks whether adaptive AI-assisted instruction can foster deeper understanding of subject matter than traditional approaches, while also examining possible trade-offs, including whether reliance on AI may weaken key cognitive skills. Situated in the context of Nepal, the project explores how generative AI can provide personalized support to students and actionable guidance to teachers in under-resourced schools. It is motivated by persistent foundational learning challenges in Nepalese public education and by the growing potential of AI to expand individualized support at scale.
