Dr. Semih Yumusak is currently a Research Fellow at the Web and Internet Science (WAIS) group, which researches large-scale systems that combine computational, data, and human components at the University of Southampton. Prior to joining the University of Southampton, Dr. Yumusak was the head of the department at the KTO Karatay University Turkey and a lecturer at Koc University, one of the top universities in Turkey, where he lectured a master’s level course on Big Data Systems. Dr. Yumusak holds an MBA degree in addition to his doctoral degree in Computer Engineering. Dr. Yumusak has worked (or is working) on several European projects, such as (i) QROWD, a project that focuses on cross-sectorial big data stream integration to improve city services like mobility and quality of life of citizens; (ii) UPCAST, project that focuses on developing GDPR-compliant plugins to for data sharing and monetization of data; and (iii) RAISE, a project that focuses on enabling FAIR data sharing and processing in a privacy-aware manner. He has (co-) authored over 20 refereed publications.
In addition to his academic experience, Dr. Yumusak has over 15 years of industrial experience, both developing and managing large scale cloud and network systems. Further to working on cloud and network systems, Dr. Yumusak has also worked in the area of artificial intelligence developing predictive models with AI4BD AG.
